Due to the growing trend of plastic pollution releasing into the environment, nowadays microplastics (MPs) are one of the new environmental challenges. It has been found in the oceans, mountains, and even remote areas such as the Arctic. One of the challenges facing MPs is identifying and measuring them in which there is no standard method for comparing the results of these studies in different environments. In this study, the sources, fate, and transport of MPs in the receiving environments are briefly reviewed. Furthermore, different methods of identification, analysis, and quantification of them are summarized.
In addition, the strengths and weaknesses of each method are discussed. These include topics related to sampling, processing and storage of samples, identification of polymers, use of common devices, positive and negative controls, and statistical analysis. Possible errors that can lead to incorrect results in any of these steps are identified and suggestions for error reduction are mentioned. Finally, some existing gaps and suggestions for future research are given.

Hossein Ganjidoust,1988年博士毕业于密苏里大学罗拉分校环境工程专业,是美国化学学会,美国水行业协会等会员。他的研究方向包括水与废水、工业和危险废物的处理、处理和处置。主持科研项目30余项,出版3本书籍,在科学和ISI期刊上发表了150多篇论文,并在200多场会议上发表了研究成果。
